The Bluegrass region of Kentucky is known for its gently rolling hills, champion horse breeding, and bourbon distilleries. For decades, thoroughbred race horses have grown strong off the rich land, and now, students from a diverse range of backgrounds come to Kentucky to learn and fortify themselves for a successful and plentiful life.

Students in Kentucky are studying in institutions such as Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC), one of Kentucky’s two-year community colleges and part of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. BCTC prepares students for successful transfer to a four-year institution or with the skills needed to begin a career.

Whether you’re starting college for the first time or thinking about a career change, BCTC offers associate degrees, diplomas and certificates - and the faculty and staff can help you reach your goals.

Lexington - Horse Capital of the World

Lexington is a city in the heart of the Bluegrass. Here, you will find beautiful horse country, great bourbon, street art, nightlife, food, shopping, architecture, history, craft beer, local coffee shops, music, and friendly people.

From a bird’s eye view, the city looks something like a wheel, with spokes running from downtown into horse country. The second largest city in Kentucky and 28th in the United States, Lexington has highly educated residents, a stable and healthy economy, and a thriving cultural scene, replete with fairs, festivals, events, and exhibits to explore. There are also several major bourbon distilleries in the area, including Wild Turkey, Buffalo Trace and The Woodford Reserve Distillery.

Affordability: Low Tuition Rates

Students appreciate that they will pay approximately half the tuition rate at BCTC compared to other colleges in the region. Over the course of four semesters, that can save students up to $30,000 in Kentucky.

For undergraduate students, BCTC has transfer agreements with virtually all of Kentucky’s state universities, so those seeking 4-year degrees know that the classes taken at BCTC will directly transfer to their new institution and count toward degree completion there. Additionally, most Kentucky state universities offer transfer scholarships to those who transfer from Bluegrass Community and Technical College.

Additionally, our admission criteria are simple to understand and easy to complete.

Thriving Academics, With Plenty of Options

Bluegrass Community and Technical College is transforming the Bluegrass Region with students at the heart of their mission. BCTC supports student access, success, and completion of educational goals through comprehensive services, high-quality career and technical education for workforce skills, and transfer education for baccalaureate degrees. BCTC awards associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in more than 40 areas of study. BCTC also has a wide range of two-year technical programs ranging from computer programming to engineering technology. Because BCTC offers classes at seven campuses—three in Lexington and four regionally—students may attend classes at different locations closer to their residences.

Some particularly unique programs include Equine Studies (including riding and care of race horses) and Equine Business Management. In the Horse Capital of the World, you can study to become a trainer, breeder, racing official, even a jockey or simply watch and enjoy the beautiful creatures in action.

Also of particular note is the Digital and Cinematic Arts program, a hands-on, project-based overview of all elements of filmmaking, from the treatment of the script, art design to the production and editing to the final distribution. If you are having trouble deciding, BCTC has its own Program Finder designed to help you find what works best for you!

With students from over 38 countries, BCTC is also incredibly welcoming. They believe that a greater diversity among students, faculty, and staff is key to producing graduates with a global outlook.
